I’ll do my best to make my second drama a better work. Until then, all of you should ‘dream high’ to achieve your goals. Now we’ll start the last episode in a little while“.

He displayed affection for his character until the very end, closing his letter with From Yang Jin Man“.

Drama “Dream High” just ended on KBS… even with my poor Korean i enjoyed watching it. sad that we were not able to watch our Yong Joon come back to the drama, but still the drama was fun to watch. Finally shot the last scene of ‘Dream High’. It was a comedic crying scene but I didn’t need any artificial tear drops because when I thought about the fact that this was the last shoot, tears just started to fall from my eyes.

My executive producing partner Yong Jun asked me if I felt happy or sad that ‘Dream High’ finally ended and I said “I feel thankful, so thankful”..

This all started when I wrote the word ‘Dream High’ on the back of a scrap paper. I thank Yong Jun and the Keyeast family for developing my small idea, CJ Media for supporting it, Hye Ryun for making it into a wonderful script, Gi Won EP for putting it on KBS (Also thank you for forcing me to act in this drama), Director Lee, Kim, and Baek and the entire staff for making this into a real Drama, All the actors for their effort, especially Gi Jun for being my acting teacher on the set, Eun Jung for being the pillar of the story, IU for giving her best in between her crazy schedule as a singer, Su Hyun for surviving a year of vocal/ dance training, and my precious, stout artists Taec, Jason, Suzy and Joo for believing in me, Nam Yong, Faryoung, Ji Sang, Eun Ji, Bong Won and the entire JYP nation for their endless effort. And most of all, I thank all the viewers who watched this ‘far-from-perfect’ drama.

This was my first time creating a TV drama and I learned so much from it so I’ll make sure to keep note of everything and comeback with a better show next time. Till then everybody chase your dreams and Dream High!
Now everyone get ready for Dream High 16th the final episode.

Korea’s Top Stars Get Honest Acting Critique From Experts

Source: Chosun Ilbo
Translated in English and shared by ockoala (thanks)

Recently a panel of experienced entertainment veterans ranging from the former head of SBS to an acting professor at Seoul University got together and critiqued the pure acting ability of the top-paid stars in Korean entertainment. I found all the criticisms valid, the rankings based on acting ability pretty much dead on, and some of the critiques so funny I was rolling on the floor.

If you think that liking a star means not being able to be honest about your beloved’s skills, then I suggest you not read on. Otherwise, check out the sad but true reality – some stars really aren’t great thespians. But at least they all try hard. The post tags will show which 10 actors got the full scrutiny.

I’ll translate in the order they were ranked.

Jang Dong Gun: pros – has a masculine charisma and a great ability to convey it, the performance is honest, is not a poser; cons – kind but cannot do vicious, needs to strength the ability to make a dramatic impression and to touch the viewers hearts. (Next up – play a serial killer, Jang Dong Gun – leave the President stuff to someone else).

Jung Woo Sung: pros – exceptional ability to understand and convey a character; cons – like a long time lover or a “newbie” who has been in the industry for quite some time, feels somber and without passion. (Tru dat).

Yoon Eun Hye: pros – finding the right character, can surpass any acting threshold; cons – after Coffee Prince, has lost her way, cannot rely on being cute. (She’s so hit – dead center, or miss – not even hitting the target, much less the bullseye).

Bae Yon Joon
: pros – everlasting Hallyu star image; cons - always and forever there are two performances, wearing glasses and not wearing glasses. (MWAHAHAHAHA!, I’m dying here).

Kim Tae Hee: pros – in My Princess, showed a glimmer of hope that acting can improve; cons – appears to have a fundamental confusion about the skill of acting, expressions of anger, expressions of sadness, its always locked into a form. (I definitely see the glimmer of hope).

Shin Mina: pros – has the potential to express any character naturally; cons – always puts the other side in a passive position, dry line readings and expressions makes even the best male actor unable to fully engage.

Choi Ji Woo: pros – has a unique, pure charisma; cons – since Winter Sonata, with her aging, her allure has decreased, needs to learn to act with her entire body rather than just with her face. (So true, but that crying face does work well).

Song Seung Heon: pros – since Happy Together, the freshness has carried over to subsequent projects, acting is mature; cons – acting does not leave a strong impression, whether dialogue or characters. (He usually skims the surface of his characters, which is why most don’t make an impression).

Kwon Sang Woo: pros – has experience and honesty in his acting; cons - its very immature to think that he can overcome his line reading impediments by choosing to do physical roles.

Jeon Ji Hyun: pros – for CFs which require an instantaneous explosion and concentration, she displays an incredible charisma and connection with the camera; cons – has an aura of mystery, even giving off a sense to the viewer that she fades from the screen and into the background.

Whenever idols-turned-actors get eviscerated for their limited acting ability and fans counter that people should cut them some slack, I contend that acting is hard hard work. Even the most experienced and highest-paid actors are judged on their talent and improvement. I love an honest look at my favorite actors, because liking someone means being cognizant of their shortcomings.

BYJ is an Cultural Revolutionist Says Gackt

Repost from Flowerbossa's Blog (thanks a lot sis)

Gackt in his interview for the magazine “Josei Jishin” Dec edition:

I met BYJ for the first time in this charity event. I thought he was an interesting person. He’s someone who knows his position really well and also very serious.

He came up to me and said something like, “I’m happy to see you. Since I don’t have any free time in during this stay, I hope we can go out to eat or something when I come here in the future.”

I like BYJ. I think his social contribution and accomplishments deserves more recognition.

Just until recently, there was discrimination against Koreans. Discrimination existed toward Japanese Koreans too. That’s just a fact. I have a lot of Korean friends, so I know how things are.

Both the Japanese and Korean government tried to mitigate the deeply rooted prejudice over decades and nothing really worked, but BYJ turned this over in just one year. This is the power of culture. It’s something that government and politics is unable to achieve.

What’s more, it changed the attitude of the people in the age group of 50 to 70 dramatically. All at once, he changed the people’s way of seeing Japanese Koreans, and the Korean people’s position in society changed too.

In a way, he is a revolutionist. A revolutionist of a cultural revolution. He should be more respected for that. That’s what I think.

The aura he emanates is not that of an actor. If anything it’s more in the nature of an artist. He has the qualities and aura close to a rock artist. I felt that the moment I met him.

His aura is suppressed when he is in a suit, but when he came into the Tokyo Dome, he was dressed more casually. He was wearing a long knit coat, with slim pants tucked into boots. That’s when I felt it. He’s a rock artist. I was taken aback, and in a way, I was moved.

His message for the event (spoken during his performance):

Everyone, please listen.
Every one of us has the right to have a dream.
Every one of us has the possibility to fulfill that dream.

That is how our future should be, and as one artist,
and also as one adult,
I came here today to encourage as many children as I can to make it happen.
You all feel the same way right?

For the children walking in the future,
let’s do something together, no matter how small!

There are lots of things we can’t do alone.
But with a small chance like today,
people like you have come here to start something, right?
Let’s start here!
Let’s start something together!

[News]Bae Yong Joon, “Even though I’m sick, if ‘Dream High’..!”

Reposted trans from Suehan's BYJ blog ( thanks again sis)

Sports Dong A 2011-02-24 07:11

Bae Yong Joon
decided to complete his role as a producer even though he is ill.

In January, Bae Yong Joon was hospitalized due to a recurring ruptured cervical disc and received treatment for 17 days. Fortunately, the treatment result was good, so he was discharged from the hospital. Since then, he has been receiving treatment as an out-patient. It’s known that he is concentrating in receiving treatment and has refrained from business activities.

But he is showing lots of interests in the production team and casts of KBS 2TV’s Mon-Tue drama “Dream High (writer Park Hye Ryeon, producer Lee Eung Bok)” which is his first production. Bae Yong Joon will be attending the wrap-up party of “Dream High” with Park Jin Young, co-producer, at a restaurant in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul on the afternoon of March 1st.

Someone related to his agency, Keyeast, explained that, “He didn’t attend the additional filming of ‘Dream High’ due to a ruptured cervical disc, but, he’ll definitely be attending the wrap-up party where all of the staff will be going. He takes it seriously because it is the wrapping-up of the drama which he has planned for a long time.”

All of the main casts of “Dream High”, Kim Soo Hyun, Bae Suzy, Ok Taec Yeon, and Jang Woo Young, will be attending the wrap-up party. The production team decided to have a private wrap-up party to applaud all of the staff and casts who participated with the Dream High production.

The press who took a picture inside the house of Bae yong Joon sued

Translation reposted from Suehan's Blog ( thanks a lot)

[News]Bae Yong Joon filed an invasion of private property lawsuit against a monthly magazine reporter

Newsen 2011-02-23 17:29

[Newsen Reporter Lee Min Ji]

“Yonsama” Bae Yong Joon filed a lawsuit against a cameraman of the monthly magazine who took pictures of the inside of the house which he purchased in Seongbuk-dong last year.

On 23rd of February, someone related to Keyeast, his agency, had a telephone conversation with Newsen and said that, “On the 18th, Bae Yong Joon filed a lawsuit against a reporter who invaded Bae Yong Joon’s privacy by taking pictures of his house in Seongbuk-dong.”

The same person above said, “We kind of understand the outside pictures since they’re already released before, but he even came into the yard to take pictures. Unfortunately, he invaded privacy and private property without the owner’s permission.”

He also added, “He took pictures of inside of the house including the yard and published them in the magazine. We filed a lawsuit for the invasion of private property. We’ve no idea how he entered the house because there were workers remodeling the house and the main entrance must be used to enter the house.

Bae Yong Joon bought a 5 billion won worth house in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul last autumn, and it became a topic. His house is currently under interior construction and he plans to move into the house as soon as the construction is completed.
