[Re] A beautiful man, Bae Yong Joon whom I met.

A beautiful man, Bae Yong Joon whom I met
09.11.18 18:06

I received an unexpected phone call in the morning.

I heard that Bae Yong Joon ssi was coming to see Gook Geunsep ssi of Myeonggahye
in a few minutes.

Who?

An actor, Bae Yong Joon ssi.

I went to the house of the head of the village for an errand, returned and opened
the window of the tea house in a hurry. I made a fire in the stove because
it was in the morning and might be cold.

A little bit later, a handsome actor, Bae Yong Joon ssi whom I have seen in the movies
and TV got off from the top class sedan and walked into the tea house with the security
guards. His car was in the middle and several cars in the front and back of it escorted
his car.

We shook hands with delight and I took him to the Myeonggahye Tea House.
Gahyue nim served him Jookro Tea (竹露茶).

Bae Yong Joon ssi said that he was fond of the Korean traditional tea and questioned me
about Jookro Tea whom I made myself. We talked about the tea a lot.

Like the title of his book, ‘Journey to discover the beauty of Korea’ that was made
of the pictures and essays recently during his busy filming schedule, he wanted to meet
and talk to Gook Geunseop himself to drink and experience “Myeonggahye Jookro Tea”
which was made by me and is the one that represents Dam Yang.

After he drank the Myeonggahye Jookro Tea of Dam Yang, he praised it highly and
bought some of it.

I sang the short song of Pansori, Sacheol Gaeul for him and his staff and they all love it.
I recommended him to beat a drum, but he said that he had never beat it before and hesitated.
I told him not to worry if he did it well or not and that he can do it naturally if he beat it with
his heart. He beat a drum while I sang Jindo Arirang and we all mingled without
any reservations to their social class.

He said he wanted to sleep over at the Myeonggahye Korean House which was surrounded
by the bamboo forests someday when he has time, and I said that I could arrange it anytime
so that he can rest comfortably.

The meeting of the best actor of Asia, Bae Yong Joon ssi, Gook Geunseop and Gahye nim
of Damyang lasted almost two hours at the culture ground of Myeonggahye that has the tea
and songs of the southern culture. We communicated from heart to heart and
the meeting remained in our hearts beautifully.

He gave me his new book, autograph on his picture and I kept them as well.

Rather than a handsome and brilliant Bae Yong Joon ssi, the Bae Yong Joon ssi I met was
a kind, friendly, and comfortable person to be around.

More than anything else, he really has lots of interests and an eye for our culture.
He is intelligent, elegant, and a real actor who knows how to feel and enjoy real beauty.

'Missionary for Environment'
BYJ, to deliver message at the UN Climate Meeting

[JES]11/20/09

BYJ will appeal the seriousness of climatic change to human race all over the world at UN using with his voice.

BYJ participated in a narration work in a public service video for 'Seal the Deal' Campaign, led by Bahn Kimoon, UN Secretary General. The 'Seal the Deal' is a global petition movement the UNEP (UN Environmental Plan) promotes. They are getting signatures from general citizens in the whole world to urge necessity of Climatic Agreement through its Seal the Deal homepage (www.sealthedeal2009.org).

The Seal the Deal public service video, where BYJ participated in, will be introduced while entire world is watching at the 15th general convention of the concerned countries for UN Climatic Change Agreement, held in Copenhagen, Denmark from coming December 7 to 18. After that, it will be followed by movements in each country to urge Climatic Change Agreement, and it is planned to be used in a movement for Environmental Protection of the Earth in association with portal sites in Korea.

BYJ, having been interested in the environmental protection in ordinary times, delightfully accepted the proposal to participate in public service video from UN. He finished the narration work on 11 in recovering status after he suffered from the sepsis. In a 4 minutes 35 second long video, he appealed with powerful voice the necessity of Climatic Agreement. The format is to narrate in Korean with subtitling in English.

UN Climatic Change Agreement in this time is in preparation for the Climatic Agreement which will go into effect from 2012. The main point is making decision on responsibilities and standards for developed countries and developing countries to undertake, respectively, to reduce amount of green-house gas emission. Naturally, it will become a focus by press in entire world, and BYJ's voice will be introduced to the world.

On the other hand, BYJ also shot a CF to promote 'Visit Korea Years' recently. As the Promotional Ambassador for 2010~2012 'Visit Korea Years', he participated in the filming to inform sentiment of Korea going around places in Cholla Province. This promotional video is planned to be introduced to overseas tourists including Japan, etc, in short while.

A Night of Centuries ― Old Manor

By Shim Hyun-chul
Staff Reporter

Serenity fills the space, without a note of desolation. Only the draft passing through the lattice windows disturbs the silence. Warmth seeps in through the heated ondol floor and the cozy scent of burning firewood, comforting the tired limbs. Perhaps this is how it felt to be a noble scholar back in the days.

Chirping birds announce day break. After watching the sun rise in the backyard one is greeted with a homemade meal.

Hahoe Village, located in Hahoe, Pungcheong-myeon, North Gyeongsang Province,is designated Main Folk Asset No. 122. The Nakdong River flows through in an ``s'' curve, giving the village its name. The village's traditional Korean charms ― ``yangban'' or nobleman houses and Buddhist temples ― attract many domestic and foreign tourists every year. A few years ago,
Britain's Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 73rd birthday here with a big traditional meal.

Spending a night at a ``hanok'' (classical Korean house) is one of the best ways to experience the local tradition. The hanok is neither fancy nor grand in scale; its beauty lies in simplicity, elegance and how it becomes one with nature.

Many houses in the village offer homestays, and among them is the 423 year-old Okyeonjeongsa. Designated Main Folk Asset No. 88, it belonged to 16th-century Joseon (1392-1910) civil minister-scholar Ryu Seong-ryong, also known under the pen name Seo Ae. Okyeonjeongsa was built over 10 years from 1576 and 1586, and Ryu began living here in 1605 when his main residence in Haehoe Village was destroyed in a flood. It is here where he penned ``Jingbirok'' (National Treasure No. 132), a memoir of the Japanese invasion of Korea of 1592.

Okyeonjeongsa is located in western Buyongdae, across from Hahoe Village. It got its name from the environs, where the waters are pure azure. Okyeonjeongsa is different from conventional aristocratic residences, which are comprised of large family quarters and ancestral shrine. It is an independent edifice that embodies Ryu's scholarly ventures. It is comprised of two main spaces, and currently Kim Sang-cheol and his wife Jeong-heui oversee the place.

Three quarters of Okyeonjeongsa are used for the homestay program, including Sesimjae, which was used as Ryu's library. The Seodangchae is where Ryu composed ``Jingbirok''

Jingbirok is the records of 7 years between 1592(25th year of Seonjo)
and 1598 and represents Master Seo Ae.This book precisely records the
relationships with Japan before the invasion, resisting activities
of common people, helps from china, and warships to take over the sea.
He recorded and wrote this in regrets and wishes that these war

and hardships should not be happen again.

and where the film ``Untold Scandal'' starring Bae Yong-joon was shot.

The homestay program is available all year round, except for one day in November designated for making kimchi. A visitor's log, filled with comments and messages, provides some interesting anecdotes. Okyeonjeongsa is dubbed ``the eye of Hahoe Village, and thus also provides a great view of the town.

``I'm touring Korea for 10 days and I feel lucky to spend a day here. It's really beautiful and I particularly like the ondol floor,''said Patricia Bethel, a Canadian tourist.

Most visitors make a two-day, one-night stay. Reservations can be made online. It is recommended that bookings are made 90 days in advance. For more information visit www.hahoehouse.co.kr.

BYJ's Etiquette

Nov. 15, 2009

BYJ's 'refinement (love for elegance), etiquette, consideration', as seen by Lee Sanghoon, an 'acting instructor'

[E-daily SPN]11/14/09 09:34

Lee Sanghoon is well known as an 'acting instructor'.

He said that he taught acting to Park Yejin, Han Hyejin, Joan, Kang Jihwahn, etc. through private instruction and in academy, etc,

The fact that gets attention is he instructed period drama acting to hallyu star BYJ who appeared in a film 'Scandal-the love story of man and woman in Chosun'. At that time, BYJ treated Mr. Lee Sanghoon with appreciation.

"Because I liked Makgeolli (Traditional Korean liquer made of grain, usually rice), I told him to drink that. Although BYJ told that he could not drink as he was undergoing dental work, he brought brown rice (soft) drink and drank with me matching the colors (of drink) with Makgeolli,"

It is a part that one can infer BYJ's refinement (love for elegance) and courtesy to other party.

Lee Sang Hoon also thanked (BYJ's) consideration saying, "At that time, I was suffering from a cold, and after the meeting was over, Mr. BYJ gave me medicine for cold and a package of mandarin orange, " and said that "Mr. BYJ, saying that he wanted to direct later on, also offered me to work together then."

Bae Yong-joon promotes Korean tourism in "Smile Campaign"

Hallyu star Bae Yong Joon promotes"Visit Korea" Campaign
[Korea Tourism organization]

Official posters of a "Smile Campaign" featuring Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon have been unveiled through the pages of some 40 media outlets, according to his agency on Wednesday.

The actor, who was appointed PR ambassador for the "Visit Korea 2010-2012" campaign last month, will be promoting Korean tourism through the posters released yesterday, BOF Entertainment said in a statement.

In February, a poster featuring the actor smiling in front of traditional Korean palace had been released to Japan's major newspapers including Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun and SPUR magazine.

"We expect this campaign to receive a positive response from Korean people," an official at Korea Tourism Organization was quoted as saying. "Bae Yong-joon has been promoting Korean culture and tradition through his book and a lot of people are relating to that."

Bae recently released photo essay book "Discovering the Beauty of Korea", which contains photographs of various cultural artisans that the actor met during his year-long travels. He authored the book in order to introduce Korean culture such as food, tradition and travel locations.

The 37-year-old actor has been actively promoting Korean culture in Asia since shooting to stardom in the region after starring in 2002 hit TV series "Winter Sonata" alongside actress Choi Ji-woo.

Some remarkable words of BYJ with the FL

Nov. 12, 2009

Joanne posted this on BYJ Quilt
(Thanks Joanne, Dailian, and to Gaeulyeoja)

Photo lifted from cafe.daum.net/byjgallery by Gwonohgyeong

The Dailian reported BYJ's visit to Cheongwadae, Korean President's Office and Home on 11/10/09. The first news was translated to English and is on News section (#1989) [leny:I reposted it already here , see - http://mychikara.blogspot.com/2009/11/vod-byj-meet-fl.html].On the same day, the same reporter at the Dailian reported conversation between BYJ and First Lady in detail, titled

Madam Kim's life in Cheongwadae as confided to Yonsama, BYJ.

Gaeulyeoja posted this on the Talk Box of BYJ's official home. It is a long article. Here are just some of interesting remarks by BYJ.

.....Omit.......

Madam Kim and Mr. Bae talked about traditional Korean homes and Makgeolli(Traditional Korean liquor made of grains) as main themes.

When Mr. Bae said, "While I took photos, I made round on traditional Korean homes, and I really want to live in traditional Korean home," [leny: Hmmm, a nationalistic citizen] ........Omit......

When Madam Kim told about reducing food waste in her family by placing enough among of side dishes on one large plate instead of serving them in individual dishes, Mr. Bae answered that " Although I still live alone, there are too much food waste. I can also save (having less waste) if I do that way." [ leny: a conservative attitude, not bad...]

During the friendly chat with frank Lady Kim, Mr. Bae hinted his inner thought saying that his future dream was to do organic farming.

Nearing the end of friendly chat, when a Korean cuisine restaurant located in Seongbook Dong (One mentioned in BYJ's book) became a topic of talks, and Lady Kim wished to visit there once, Mr. Bae responded warmly saying, "I will personally bring my car and take dear Madam there and return in secret." [ leny: thoughtful and caring, too]

When Madam Kim said, "For us, December 19 is wedding anniversary, date won the Presidential election, as well as (President's) birthday," and "We did that way not to forget but to celebrate both the birthday and wedding anniversary because (President) has been so busy,", Mr. Bae answered, "When I get married, I will fit everything to my wife's birthday, contrary to (you)." [ leny: a very sweet and loving husband to be, I really envy his future wife T-T] Then, Madam Kim joked, "If you do that, you will get more love from your wife."

On that day, the friendly chat between Madam Kim and Mr, Bae lasted about 1 hour and 10 minutes, extending over scheduled time.
